Transformative Education for Children in Canada’s Child Welfare System
Hosted by the Ontario Tech Women in Research Council, this webinar examines the structural barriers former youth in care face when accessing post-secondary education in Canada and the role tuition waiver programs can play in supporting more equitable access.
The session will feature research findings from a national Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada-funded project on the impact of tuition waiver programs on post-secondary access for former youth in care. Participants will also learn about a digital storytelling initiative that shares experiences from youth, educators and service providers across Canada.
Speakers include Dr. Jacqueline Gahagan of Mount Saint Vincent University, Dr. Melanie M. Doucet of the National Council of Youth in Care Advocates and Dr. Joe Stokes, Registrar at Ontario Tech University. The webinar will be moderated by Dr. Janette Hughes, Chair of the Ontario Tech Women in Research Council.
